Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Jams/Jellies and Fruit Spreads?

The difference between Jams/Jellies and our Fruit Spreads is really simple. We use less sugar than traditionally sold Jams and Jellies. With food products, the ingredients are listed by weight. Fruit is truly the first ingredient in all of our Fruit Spreads.

In many mass market products, the companies will use different types of saccharides (sugars) so that they are able to list fruit first by weight. We only use natural cane sugar. This gives a better flavor without unnecessary sugary add ins.

What is used to sweeten your Fruit Spreads?

We use only natural sugar to sweeten our Fruit Spreads. We never let High Fructose Corn Syrup anywhere near our products.

What is the difference between Soy Wax and Paraffin Wax?

  • Soy wax is derived naturally from the soy bean plant making it a sustainable resource. Paraffin is derived from petroleum which is a non-sustainable resource.

  • Soy wax gives a cleaner burn than paraffin which means less smoke and soot.

  • Soy waxes hold fragrance really well and, I think, better than most petrol based waxes.

  • Soy wax has a lower burn temperature than paraffin and tends to burn longer when properly maintained.

What are your Wicks made of?

Our wicks are natural fiber. They are made with paper and cotton and coated in natural wax (i.e. not paraffin) When properly cared for they produce a great match for our soy wax.

How should I care for my Candle?

  • First and foremost, never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch for the most efficient burning experience.

  • Never burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.

  • Cover your candle between burns to avoid scent evaporation.

Why does my Candle/Wax melt look frosted?

  • This is an indication of your candle/melt being made of natural wax. We at Montana Jam & Candles don’t use color stabilizers as an additive to our products.

  • Frosting is a natural occurrence and doesn’t affect the quality or performance of your candle in any way.

  • Frosting is very common in 100% natural waxes and it is caused by the wax recrystallizing.

  • Enjoy the added character :)
